Pedro Armendáriz Jr., one of Mexico's most celebrated and honored motion picture and television actors, has been selected to receive the second annual Tribute Award it was announced today by James E. Lloyd, President of the Ajijic Festival Internacional de Cine.
Sr. Armendáriz, who has appeared in over 120 films, including 25 Hollywood productions, was this years' recipient of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in La Ley de Herodes. He has been nominated for the Ariel Award for Best Actor six times and five times for Best Supporting Actor. In 1991, he received a Herald Award, presented by El Heraldo for Best Actor. In 1975 Pedro received his first Ariel for the best performance by an actor in a leading role in the film Mina, viento de libertad directed by Antonio Eceiza.
His most recent films include Dancing In The Dark directed by Antonio Banderas and The Mexican directed by Gore Verinski. He also appeared in Amistad, directed by Stephen Spielberg, and The Mask of Zorro. In addition to his work in films and television, Sr. Armendáriz is also an officer of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and has been instrumental in promoting the advantages of international film production in Mexico. The Tribute Award will be presented to Sr. Armendáriz on Friday November 10th at a gala reception and dinner at La Nuevo Posada in Ajijic. Marcela Palafox, recognized as one of the leading international motion picture marketing and advertising experts, will preside as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
